How to set up canon printer

Canon is a leading printer company that manufactures all types of printers. In our day-to-day life, the printer becomes an essential part of making our work simple and easy. If we are used to it, installing and operating a printer is easy, but if we lack technical knowledge, it is a bit hard to set up a printer. Some of us would have bought a printer to make our work life comfortable, but we are not aware of how to install and use it. If you have recently purchased a Canon printer and setting it up for the first time, this article’ll help you do it with ease.

How to set up canon printer

Unboxing the printer

  • Take out the printer from the shipment package, remove all the packing materials around it, and keep it on a flat surface.
  • Separate all the accessories that came along with it, like the power cord, USB cable, CD, setup manual, and other documentation, from the box.
  • Remove all the packing stickers inside and outside of the printer.

Connect the power cord

  • Take the power cord that came with the printer.
  • Connect one of the ends of the power cord to the rear section of the printer.
  • Plug the opposite end of this cord into an electrical socket.

Ink cartridge installation

The basic cartridge installation procedure is as follows.

  • Locate the cartridge unit in your printer and make sure to turn off the device once the carriage stops.
  • Remove the seal wrapped over the Canon ink cartridge.
  • Take the cartridge and insert it into its slot in the printer.
  • Push it until it snaps into the slot securely.
  • Once you have finished installing the cartridges, you can start loading the paper.

Loading paper  

  • Open the front cover and then extend the paper support.
  • Now, use the right paper guide to slide both paper guides all the way out.
  • Load the paper into the center of the front tray with the print side facing down.
  • You need to push the paper stack all the way to the back of the tray.
  • Next, you need to slide the right paper guide to align the paper guides with both sides of the paper stack.

Note: Do not slide the paper guides too hard against the paper. The paper may not feed properly.

  • Open the paper output tray extension gently and then extend the paper output support.
  • Note: Make sure to open the paper output tray when printing. If it is not open, the machine cannot start printing.

    Installing a USB Printer for Windows

    • Connect the Canon printer to your computer with a USB cable. You can do this task only when you are prompted to do so during the software installation.
    • Turn on your printer (You have to turn it on after connecting the USB cable).
    • Wait for your system to detect the printer and then install it.

    Install the printer software 

    • Install the Canon printer software using the CD that came along with the printer. 
    • You’ll have to insert the CD into the CD drive of your computer and follow the on-screen procedure.
    • In case you don't have the disk or lost it, download the drivers from the Canon manufacturer's website.
    • Run the downloaded file to install the driver by following the on-screen instructions.

    Install a Canon Wireless Printer

    • The Canon printer should be plugged in and turned on.
    • Check if the printer driver is installed on your computer.
    • Connect the printer to the wireless network.
    • Make sure that you connect your computer and the Canon printer to the same wireless network.

    Canon Printer Setup For Windows OS (Adding the printer)

    • Click on Start and then select Settings.
    • Navigate to Printers and Scanners and then choose the option of Add the printer or scanner.
    • Once your Canon printer is added, you can take the test print.

    Canon Printer Setup For Mac OS (Adding the printer):

    • First, click the Apple icon and choose System Preferences.
    • Select Printers and Scanners.
    • Click the Add (+) symbol to add your Canon printer.
    • From the result, select the printer and add it.
    • Finally, perform a test print.
